If you're a venue that wants to join in
Elliot and Carina had a beautifully simple barn wedding at Crondon Park Golf Club, Essex. Their wedding day was perfectly captured by Justin Bailey Photography, and they’ve kindly shared their wedding day story with us in their own words…
Elliot and I were engaged in July 2015. Elliot’s from Cornwall and we’d visited the beautiful Minack Theatre a few times and I told him it was my favourite place in the world. He took me back there to propose in front of the ocean!
We got married at Crondon Park Golf Club. We wanted a low key barn wedding and when we visited, Crondon Park had the beautiful simplicity that we were looking for and we just knew immediately it was the perfect wedding venue for us. Plus it had great accessibility and was close by for my Grandparents who aren’t very mobile.
We knew we wanted a barn wedding and we wanted to be surrounded by countryside. We also knew we wanted an afternoon tea instead of the traditional wedding breakfast, so finding a place that would cater for that was a high priority.
The atmosphere was also very important to us. Some venues came across as a bit stuck up and we wanted our wedding to be more relaxed. And of course, the food was very important!
Our wedding co-ordinator, Debbie, was amazing. She really went out of her way to help us make our day perfect and we felt like she was as excited about our day as we were.
The barn is just gorgeous. We had no decoration in the main barn where the reception was because it was perfect as it was. The grounds surrounding the barn were great for photos!
We decided to do all the decor ourselves. As the venue was so beautiful so we didn’t have much additional styling – no centre pieces on the tables, only a few small bottles of flowers on the ceremony table.
The food was fantastic! We rented an ice cream van for after the ceremony which went down a treat. But I think our favourite part was when our photographer and videographer took just the two of us off to some of the nearby fields for some evening sunset photos. It was so nice to spend some time alone together for a while and we had lots of fun.
We went for a green colour scheme. My bridesmaids were all in green and so we thought I’d have a green bouquet and they would have white. Our florist helped us pick Gypsophila for my girls and I had a foliage bouquet. The boys button holes were a mix of green Thistles and Gypsophila to match.
We are big foodies so that was important. We had an afternoon tea rather than a three course meal, cider instead of wine, a cheese tower instead of a wedding cake and we also had an ice cream van come to the venue.
The table names were dates of our joint big life events like moving in together, our first date and getting our cat.
Carina’s class of 8 and 9 year old children drew sketches for each individual place name. Our guests loved this personal touch and it provided many laughs comparing the varying levels of likeness.
The afternoon tea and evening buffet was all provided by Crondon Park. The afternoon tea was EXACTLY as we requested. They did such a good job.
We had a 9 tier, cheese tower by Cheese Hub, instead of a cake!
It’s not easy finding the right photographer and we trawled through websites for ages but it was worth the effort! When we saw Justin Bailey‘s photos we knew we had to meet him and as soon as we did, we knew he was the person we wanted taking our photos. He was so calm and professional that it made everything so much easier on the day.
There’s a photo of us in the evening, in the recently cut wheat field, looking at each other and smiling.
We also played a few games in those evening photos which were fun, for example one where we had to close our eyes, hands behind our backs, walk towards each other and try to meet in the middle with a kiss. This wasn’t always successful but we had some nice photos of us laughing and smiling together.
The third was also during the evening photos where Justin asked us to twirl into each other’s arms.
All of the photos just perfectly captured some of the highlights of our wedding day and it’s so nice to look back and remember those moments but these three were some of our favourite moments together in the whirlwind of the big day.
