If you're a venue that wants to join in
Jessica and Jake had the perfect romantic lakeside wedding at Quantock Lakes, a beautiful modern barn wedding venue in Somerset.
They brought their own style to the venue and made the most of the stunning views – all recorded by wedding photographer, Martin Dabek.
We got engaged in August 2016 when we were away on holiday in Mauritius. Jake got down on one knee while we were walking on the beach at sunset.
We got married at Quantock Lakes, a beautiful, modern barn wedding venue in Somerset. It just felt like the perfect venue and the view is amazing – we fell in love with the sunset over the hills and the contemporary feel of the venue. Plus it had enough accommodation on site for the majority of our wedding guests. As soon as we got there, we got that magical feeling and the decision was made.
I had an inkling of the sort of wedding I would like, doesn’t everyone? But researching on Pinterest confirmed it and helped me gather lots of ideas.
The most important thing for us was making sure that we could keep all of our guests together for the wedding breakfast and evening celebrations. We wanted the atmosphere to be fun and for everyone to be together. Quantock Lakes has the perfect set up – the bar is in the same room as the wedding breakfast and the dance floor. Also there are big doors that open straight on to the outside area so guests can come in and out freely.
Every part of the day was amazing. The first dance was truly special and afterwards with everyone on the dance floor, it was a very happy time.
My suggestion for future couples getting married at Quantock Lakes would be don’t stress, they are very organised and help you through the whole process. Also think about using their recommended suppliers for dressing the venue as they add an extra magical element to it.
Our theme was rose gold, elegance and sparkle. The tables had rose gold table runners with mirror glass plates for the centre pieces to sit on.
The styling and decorating of the venue was something we wanted to do ourselves, and we also worked with Once Upon A Table Events to help with the bigger things, such as putting up ceiling canopies and fairy lights. We created cardboard 3D glittery table numbers and they looked super effective. And we made a sign with the 3D letters for our initials and covered them in glitter too to put it by the entrance when people came in.
Deciding on flowers was the easy part as we knew what we wanted from researching on Pinterest. We wanted the high centre pieces and large urns to welcome the guests before the ceremony. I love flowers and we felt it added that elegance that we were looking for. Our flowers were shades of soft pink, peaches and ivory to compliment the elegant theme. We worked with Bijoux Floral and they took our ideas above and beyond our expectations!
For a personal touch, we included photos of our younger selves on each table at the ages of that table number. We thought this would show the guests that might not have known us at the age what we were like!
Quantock Lakes provided the catering and it was amazing. They served canapés during the welcome drinks, a three course sit down meal for the wedding breakfast and a hog roast in the evening. All the guests complimented the food.
We also had a tasting session before the big day to try the different options which was a massive help.
We chose a three-tier cake with fruit cake, chocolate and vanilla favours. Our cake was amazing! We had ruffles on the bottom, the middle tier was a pink/rose gold shimmer effect with a ribbon around and the top was plain white with pink roses on the top. I had looked into different cake designs and saw each of those tiers on different cakes so I thought about putting them together and Nic (That Cake Lady) said it would work!
We worked hard to find our perfect wedding photographer, Martin Dabek. While viewing wedding venues we took names down of the photographer’s albums they had on show and then looked at their websites to get a feel and booked an appointment. Once you get to know the vibe of the photographer, you can tell if they will work for you and your wedding and Martin had the style we were looking for.
Our wedding photos are amazing! They are everything we wanted and more so it’s hard to choose our favourites, but if we had to pick it would be these three:
